The checkers have waved...

on the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup season. The season was marked by ups and downs and major news. From the February Daytona cheating scandals to the sports most popular driver making one of the biggest moves in NASCAR history. If nothing else it's been one hell of a ride.

Matt Kenseth took the win in Sunday's Ford 400 as part of Ford Championship Weekend, but that was pushed aside as the 2007 champion was crowned.

Jimmie Johnson became the first driver since the Jeff Gordon (97 & 98) to win back-to-back championships. Johnson recently marked his spot in history by joining an elite group of men who have won 4 races in a row. The last driver to tally that mark, Jeff Gordon. Johnson capped off the 10 win season by finishing points over Johnson.

Ron Hornaday, Jr. picked up the championship in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series Friday night. He came back from a 52 point deficet to Mike Skinner after Skinner had a wheel come off the left rear of his race truck. Hornaday joins Jack Sprague as the only two men with 3 championships.

Carl Edwards celebrated Saturday night even though the NASCAR Busch Series Championship has been locked up for weeks. Edwards wins the final Busch Series Championship as the well known beer company cashes in after a 26 year sponsorship of the minor league series. Nationwide Insurance will sponsor the 2008 Nationwide Series after signing a multi-year deal with NASCAR.

There will be 90 days until the 2008 Daytona 500. The race will celebrate it's 50th anniversary.

Oh Nascar. I've never really understood the sport personally, but I know there are many people who are the same way about American Football. Well, more power to ya, and enjoy the season!
