Arrogant asshole with a fluttering heart. (He did let a couple ladies take a golf cart before he put his wide ass on it, and he even waited till everyone was off the bus before getting off. Which shocked us because he had done nothing but bitch since we came in contact with him. I think he just likes to hear himself talk.)
I experienced my first 'California' fan.
As the race ended we made our way to the shuttle station. The little Nationwide bus would take us back to the car, 30 miles away. Ok, maybe not 30...but 5 at least. So we went and stood at the end of the line, which had to have been longer than the line of those waiting to get gas after 9-11. We followed a couple ladies to the end and there we met rich guy. He had to be rich because he just had that 'attitude' that said, I'm important.
I beg to differ.
First of all, he complained the entire time. He whined about the line and how there had to be a more efficient way to get 120,000 people out of here. Indy wasn't this bad and there are twice as many fans.
I've been to Indy. I'd like to know where rich guy had his tickets. Because when we went it took us like 6 hours to get back to our hotel in traffic. Did this guy catch a helicopter out of the speedway? Second he kept complaining about logistics. Now, the road system at Infineon is literally like a one lane bridge, for miles. It's curvy, it's narrow and it's not very commuter friendly. Keep in mind this place has several other forms of racing and it's usually not this full. This is a once-a-year deal for this track so of course things aren't going to be perfect.
I've been on the other side and logistics are the hardest part of track events. It's impossible to make everyone happy and you do the best you can with the facilities you have. Hey, they didn't have to have shuttles....
He would not drop it, he kept complaining. Listen rich guy, next time...don't come.
So I started to talk to rich guy (like the PR person I am) and he confirmed the name I've given rich guy. He's a card carrying member of the SCCA which means he does some club racing and also means he has money. That's not where it got interesting. He inherited the nickname arrogant asshole after he told me he could beat these drivers around the course. I almost laughed in his face. "These cars aren't made for road racing." He says. Ok, I'll agree with you on that. Because I mean, it’s sorta true. These stock cars are heavy. 3,400 pounds, not exactly quick and agile around corners. But this idiot telling me his GT could beat lap times of Tony Stewart-come on.
"They were running 77's...I run a 75 right here at this very course course."
I just nodded and then it was clear to me why the world is falling apart. It's people raising their kids to have similar attitudes and it's literally sending this place down the pot hole.
Ok, point taken. You're quicker in something lighter.
Let me know when you get that call from Mr. Hendrick.
Jackass.
Still more to come...
