I read something this morning that really steamed me. I needed to vent about it and instead of leaving him a nasty comment, I’ll do it in my own domain. I log on every morning to a site that lists a slew of racing related articles from different areas of media.
First of all I want to put out a disclaimer. I am in no way affiliated with any motorsports site, I don’t travel to races, I don’t write for a pay check; I write because I want to and we all know practice never hurts anybody. That said.
I read an article this morning which will go nameless because this is my own opinion and I don’t want to inadvertently slander anyone. The article discussed the musings of a national correspondent for the SPEED channel. He did a radio show and well, he was acting like a guy. Period.
This ‘poser’ writes for a paper in the northeast. The site looks sketchy, but I am assured it's legit. They really must have low standards for published material. He needs to figure out how to weed through news and shit pot stirring material because that’s what he picked out. He went on to complain about the correspondents remarks regarding women, he called them ‘broads’ and used the phrase ‘limp-wristed.’ I believe the word 'chick' might have been thrown around too.
Let’s get one thing straight, I’m not validating what said correspondent remarked. It probably wasn’t the best choice of words, but in context, it was kind of funny and as a woman I was not at all offended. I’m sure some sensitive women would be, but come on consider the source. If you at all followed NASCAR on SPEED you’d realize that the correspondent is nothing but a big kid. Cut him some slack. He was on AM radio and how many people honestly listen in anyways.
I will also say that he was just adding to the already present conversation of the hosts. He was being a guy, evidently it’s something this writer hasn’t figured out how to do yet. Has he ever played poker? Has he ever been to a bar? Has he ever listened to men talk? Obviously not.
I realize that his point of the story was the impending lawsuit NASCAR has on its plate regarding the harassment charges of M. Grant. He also wanted to point out that the sport is predominantly white male and that the stereotypes the sport gets are justified by such behavior. Again, report something new. Ever wonder if maybe that’s why the sport has the fan base it does?
That’s beside the point.
I’ve read this ‘bloggers’ blog a few times and each time I kick myself for dumbing myself down. He doesn’t seem to get the facts and he doesn’t really report anything new. In fact it’s more hybridized information from other stories.
I guess if he was that talented he’d have the clout of Nate Ryan or David Poole.
Posers piss me off. If you want to write your opinion, write it, you don’t have to pretend to be a member of the traveling media circus.
Oh, and going to 5 races a year, doesn’t qualify you into that group. Get you a hard card and then maybe I'll consider you credible.
