This will be a random entry. I have little bits and pieces, but nothing that deserves a full entry.
I am beginning to really like Google. For the first time in a very long time I have the time to sit down and explore this wonderful tool. I'm typing this blog entry in my 'Google documents' and I'm digging it. This is just plain crazy, all the things email accounts can do for you. I'm looking forward to figuring out more, now I'm excited and I may not leave the computer chair tonight.
On to some other things.
I am convinced kids can't read, that or they are severely dyslexic and are misdiagnosed. I stood in front of fifth graders and repeated directions three times and some of them still didn't get it. The directions were simple. Take out the rough draft, then share it with a friend and have them peer edit in RED pen and then hand it to me. Take an over under on how many looked at me and said, "what do we do?" and "can I use blue pen?" The big 'winner, winner, chicken dinner' though belongs to a young lady who got a laptop out and messed around all class period and then at the end came up and said.
"What do I do with this?"
"Is it edited?"
"No."
"You had a laptop out, didn't you?"
"What?" First of all, I'm not stupid, I've used the 'what' tactic myself on unsuspecting teachers. I see now why it never worked for me either.
"What, what?" I said back. "You failed to follow directions. Why were you on the laptop if your assignment wasn't done?"
"I didn't know."
This is where I lost it, just a little bit. "Are you kidding? You sit in the front row, I explained it multiple times. Can you turn around and read those instructions your regular teacher wrote and explained before she left out loud to me? That means you had instructions five times and you still didn't get it." She couldn't do that either.
Kids like her make me insane because I'll be paying for her...and her twelve kids.
On to something that doesn't make me crazy...racing! It's the last weekend of racing for the 2008 season. Jimmie Johnson will probably, provided nobody kidnaps him and he can crank the car, win three championships in a row. That hasn't happened for thirty years. So, check out ABC this weekend and witness history. Or, if its a repeat of last weekend you'll witness some dad get nailed in the balls by a baseball his four-year-old son connected with using a wiffle bat; all while the race concludes on another channel.
In case you're wondering about that last comment, ABC really screwed the pooch by moving the race last weekend with 30 laps to go. That's right, with 30 laps to go they took the race off ABC and moved it over to ESPN2 because it had run 30 minutes long. Those with Tivo or DVR were THRILLED to see the ball to nuts debacle instead of Jimmie crossing the finish line 141 points ahead of Carl Edwards. Gotta love Disney.
The truck series should be the class of the weekend with only three points separating Ron Hornaday and Johnny Benson. (That's the one I'll be watching closely). The Nationwide series has Carl Edwards and Clint Bowyer separated by 56 points, Bowyer will be watching his rear view pretty carefully.
Until next time!
