One more week, seven days from Sunday - the best day in motorsports.
Three events to watch in three premiere series of racing...
NASCAR
50th running of the Coca Cola 600, or for the old school fans - The World 600. The longest race on the schedule, and often one of the most dramatic, comes to Lowe's Motor Speedway Sunday, May 24 at 4:45 p.m. (CST) on Fox.
One of the most historic NASCAR events next to the Daytona 500 that has produced first wins for the sports biggest names, Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth. Six times the winner of the previous weekend event, the Sprint All-Star Race, has went on to win the 600 miler. This years All-Star winner, Tony Stewart.
IndyCar Racing
The greatest spectacle in racing from the racing capital of the world. The Indianapolis 500, and if you ever get a chance to witness the historical event live - do it, it's unforgettable. Sunday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on ABC.
The intensity is felt even through the television screen as history unfolds on the storied Brickyard. The month of May has brought the league home to Indianapolis, and it will conclude with the running of the 93rd race. Helio Castroneves is slated on the pole, Dario Franchitti slated to start third and Danica Patrick will pull to the green flag in tenth. John Andretti, in a Richard Petty entry squeaks into the field in the final seven minutes of Bump Day - that is drama.
Formula 1
International flavor comes with the running of the Formula 1 GRAND PRIX DE MONACO 2009. The race dating back to 1929 is considered the most prestigious in motorsports alongside the Indianapolis 500. The event will run Sunday, May 24 at 6:30 a.m. (CST) on Speed.
The glamor and culture of the race make it the crown jewel of Formula 1 racing. Six time world champion and most recognizable name in F1 racing Michael Schumacher, has won the event five times.
Older news I didn't weigh in on yet...
Jeremy Mayfield becomes the first cup driver suspended for violating the substance abuse policy. Mayfield is denying the claims, however, doctors performing the tests stated the infraction was a drug of concern. Mayfield released a statement claiming prescription drugs mixed with over the counter medication caused the test failure.
Obviously Mayfield is on something if he thinks we're all stupid enough to believe Claritin causes drug test failures. Apparently Jeremy missed that day in grade school....
This is your brain...this is your brain on drugs...any questions?
Dale Jr. said it best...
"That don't make no damn sense. Just don't take drugs. Don't do anything stupid and you won't get caught. That's ridiculous....Don't take drugs. It's stupid to do anyways. Regardless if you drive race cars or not, it's a dumb idea. Don't be ignorant."
