Nothing like being confused when you flip to NBC on a Sunday night to catch a preseason football game. Of course it would have helped had I watched from kickoff and not flipped over right after half-time.
Oil rigs on the baby blue helmets sent me into a time warp. I thought it was Tennessee and Buffalo in the Hall of Fame game, the Oilers aren't even a team anymore? Then it smacked me like a Mack truck as I see the Buffalo Bills and their throwback uniforms.
The Tennessee Titans used to be the Houston Oilers before they were moved to Tennessee. Duh.
I also think Cris Collinsworth next to Al Michaels threw me for a loop. So many years of hearing Mr. Obvious John Madden calling games. It sounded a bit different, in a good way. I think Collinsworth is a great replacement and I look forward to a year of intelligent commentary. It's just hard to believe it's preseason football time already, where has the summer gone?
The Hall of Fame game is awesome, but can be confusing. I recognize very few players and because it's the third quarter all the 'franchise' players have taken a seat so they don't get hurt before the real season starts. I had to Google three players just to see if they were legitimate draft choices at some point in their careers; hell for all I know they grabbed a janitor and slapped a helmet on him. Didn't they make a movie with that plot line?
I have to say the best vacation I ever took growing up was visiting the NFL Hall of Fame. So much history and so many memorable players that helped shape a game - all in one place. A very cool and humbling place to visit.
