Sports nuggets...

Bits and pieces from the sports world.

Farve is back
He's back, yet again. Brett Farve is now a Viking for the next two years. Farve joining the Minnesota team was like a kick in the nuts to Green Bay fans everywhere. Minnesota and Green Bay have a rivalry much like Oakland and Kansas City. They hate each other. Farve joining the arch enemy has to hurt like hell, but one group of folks that is rejoicing - ESPN. The October 5 meeting of the rivals has the potential to have the highest ratings in nearly a decade.

Next time he retires don't alert the media, it'll be a waste of time.

Plaxico is heading to the clink
Remember that football player that shot himself in the thigh? In December New York Giant Plaxico Burress had an illegal weapon on him at a club and it went off in his pants. Now, he's spending two years in jail for his bad decision after pleading guilty to the weapons charges. Without a deal he was looking at a much steeper sentence. Plaxico will be there for about 20 months and change.

The NFL commissioner probably should start looking into a federal prison frequent visitor program if they have one. It sure would save a lot of time when he visits his athletes.

Singing the blues in Memphis

Remember Kansas played Memphis for the National Championship? Well, Memphis has no recollection of the entire season now. After an NCAA investigation Memphis will have to vacate the 38 wins during their 2007-08 season, which included the loss to KU in the championship game. The current Memphis team will not be punished for the violations, but a fraudulent SAT score by now pro Derrick Rose was one item on the list.

If Memphis' season doesn't exist, does the win for KU exist? Unfortunately, yes.

Hey, Mr. Prez
NASCAR visited the White House on Wednesday. It was not the first visit to the nation's capitol, but it was the first visit under the Obama administration. The trip was to honor Jimmie Johnson and his 2008 championship. Drivers Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. were among those being honored as well. The King Richard Petty was also on hand. Petty has visited every president since Jimmy Carter. Minus Bill Clinton however, because Petty "didn't agree with that cat's politics."

Obama did not make a championship prediction for the 2009 season, but did tell ESPN that Jimmie's dominance was comparable to Tiger Woods in golf. When told about the comparison Johnson, the three time NASCAR champion, was speechless.

How you know you've made it in the world. The leader of the free world compares you to one of the greatest athletes of all time.
