This is my first experience covering a live racing event, of this magnitude. I've been to races before, but not in this capacity. I think I found something I might want to do - it only took me two degrees and a packed resume to do it.
I wasn't all that nervous to be honest, I thought I would be - I surprised myself. The moment I knew I would be okay was standing next to Chad Knaus in a swarm of reporters. I didn't feel claustrophobic and I didn't feel like a race fan. I felt like an actual professional.
Hard to believe, I know.
I learned a lot. The media is either loved or hated - and its all about getting to know people. For me that's kind of hard, sounds crazy, but it's true. I'm a pretty reserved person until I feel like I get into a comfort zone. Right now my toes are on the white line. With a little practice and more exposure I know I'd be just fine.
The best quotes from the day I can't print and I will tell you that everyone thinks it's tornado breezy and igloo cold. It's only 50 degrees. Hell, I start sweating at 52 degrees. I've seen more scarves and gloves here than I did on the playground last winter.
Overall a great experience. I'll try to write more about Saturday when I get some time. Until then..
