Nomadic...

I first have to say I apologize for the lack of updates lately. Things have been semi-chaotic and I haven't really had the time (or anything) to write. That being said...

I have a theory. The new liquid rules on airplanes are designed as a money maker.

A bottle of water you buy outside the gate, but can't take through gate security is $1.99. A bottle of water bought inside the gate, where you are allowed to indulge - $2.99. I rest my case.

I was traveling to Charlotte, NC Sunday to attend the NASCAR Media Tour sponsored by Sprint and hosted by the Charlotte Motor Speedway (formally Lowe's Motor Speedway). My first flight took off at 6:25 a.m. from MCI and even through dense fog, managed to be on time. I actually had very good luck traveling, which means I'm worried about my return trip on Friday. Can two travel foo free days be in my cards?

As I sat listening to the safety instructions I had to just scratch my head. I realize they are standard and every flight gets them, but are we really going to need a flotation device from Kansas to Tennessee, I don't think so. Either way, I diligently paid attention and off we went.

The flight itself was blind because all the clouds were below us in the form of fog and overcast weather. I wasn't able to see anything until we got close to the ground. I started to make out things and suddenly realized we must be in Tennessee. The first thing I see, a gutted airplane in an open area and then as we taxied I spotted an old torn up airplane engine - on a flatbed trailer. Yep, we've made it to Memphis.

The flight to Charlotte was comfortable, and fairly empty - very quiet. I like that. When I arrived in North Carolina I was greeted by my transportation for the day. A fellow former student of one of my greatest professors. We had never met, but follow each other through social media and of course, e-mail. It was exciting to finally put a face with words, and I had so much fun hanging out with her. She and her boyfriend showed me around the area and I now know all about brakes (or at least more than I did because her SO is a mechanical engineer). I am so fortunate to have met her and hopefully we can meet up again soon.

No offense to my Kansas family and friends, but it's nice to have an industry conversation or say something motorsports related and not see someone's eyes glaze over (Two people who know who they are, are exempt).

I'm looking forward to the week. A jam packed schedule that will be worth the hard work. I hope.

If I get a chance I will update as much as I can. A really expensive room, and no free internet. I was a bit miffed, but hey - it's only money - right?
