Improvise...

I consider myself adaptable, a chameleon that can blend into any situation and just take what I'm given to "make it work."

Tim Gunn would be so proud.

Personally, I think it's a farm kid thing. You just have to make due with what you have and get creative. Think Agri MacGyver - without the mullet, but with a seed logo trucker hat - and overalls, oh, and steel toed boots. I digress.

This is how I adapt to not being able to go out for lunch on most days. In the morning I may use the mug for tea, and a lunch it turns into a bowl so I can enjoy things like Easy Mac, and oatmeal right at my desk without missing a beat.

I try to prepare for this by keeping things like plastic spoons, napkins and even little bags of pretzels stashed in a drawer for easy access. I can't rely on the break room for things like this because if it's not bolted down in that place - it's not staying for long.

Rule is, if you want to get rid of something, you take it to the break room. So I tend to keep things close to the vest.

I happened to run out of plastic spoons, so I had to improvise and use a plastic knife. I wasn't sure it would work, but my other options were hands - but I do have a few manners, and this isn't an Ethiopian restaurant. Surprisingly it worked.

It's a lot like eating rice with chopsticks. It's difficult, but not impossible.
