Who brought the dip...

Family gatherings around the holidays are a time to eat until you are diabetic, and drink until you can attend a few meetings.

One of my family's traditions is the extended family getting together (not on Christmas) for soup. It rotates between four families and this year was our year to host the festivities. There were several plates of candy, cookies, and dips and crackers and I could go on and on. Part of the hosting gig means leftovers.

On Sunday we sat down to a table full of leftovers and as we passed the goodies around a container was set down in front of me. It was puzzling really, because I couldn't figure out why ricotta cheese was on the table in the first place, and second why there was only about a spoonful missing.

"Why is there ricotta cheese on the table?" I asked.

We all kind of looked around and then Grandma piped up, "there it is. I was going to use it to make lasagna and never got around to it."

"Well, there's enough left," I told her.

"That's what that is?" Dad asked. "I ate some and didn't think it had any flavor, but didn't want to say anything because I didn't know who brought it."

"It was kind of grainy," sis added.

"You ate it too," I asked.

"Yeah, I thought it went on crackers," somebody else said.

"I think I opened it," sis said.

"You didn't read the package?" I asked.

"No! Why would I? It was with the other dips," she said.

"It's got RICOTTA CHEESE written on the outside," I turned it so she could see for herself. "It doesn't even look like dip."

"Yes it does!"

"Well it sure as hell doesn't taste like it," Dad said.
