Then I got into management, and now I keep it close by. There is just something soothing about a smooth piece of delicious chocolate melting in your mouth. It's like an immediate calm rushes over you as tasty goodness sedates the taste buds and nerves. And, chocolate is a heck of a lot better than taking a couple drags off a cigarette.
Chocolate is such great therapy I even keep some on my desk, to share of course. Granted, it was risky putting chocolate out in the open. It can attract unwanted critters - like people - but, for the most part knowing a nice soothing moment is only a arms length away is not a bad thing. They can even serve as cheerleaders when the day is spiraling out of control.
Take today for instance. I needed a little pick me up, but what I got was a blog inspiration. I ate three before I was inspired, but maybe that was some sort of sign that I should stop putting chocolate in my mouth in the first place.
The chocolate message told me to "enjoy the small things in life." So here are some of the small things in life I enjoy.
- People who put the toilet paper on the roll correctly.
- My neighbors are polite, but leave me alone.
- I can write important phone numbers on my computer stand at work.
- Sarcastic coworkers who speak my language.
- Living alone means cleaning when you feel like it.
- Post-it notes in many colors.
- Sharpies.
- Kindle.
- Random texts during the day that make me laugh.
- Tylenol.
- My favorite wine not sold by the gallon (or I'd be a drunk).
- Self-adhesive stamps and envelopes.
- Flat rate shipping boxes.
- Take a penny, leave a penny ashtrays in convenience stores.
- The chocolates on my desk.
If your chocolate is not giving you mid-day pep talks and motivation, maybe you should switch it up. If it's going to make you fat, it could at least make you feel good about yourself first.
