Santa Fe adventure...

The family truckster was loaded up again early this morning for a trip north on I-25 to Santa Fe.

The first order of business was breakfast, followed by the Georgia O'Keefe art museum, and a walk through the plaza ended our day. It was an interesting trip to the capital city to say the least. We did see a emo gal walking around in a neon tutu, sneakers, and decked in black. Had it not been so obvious I would have snapped a picture, but there were too many people around and she was drawing enough attention to herself.

One thing I did learn was that some parents actually take their kids to museums and culture them. There was a mother and her very young son touring the gallery and she was talking about each photo with him. He couldn't have been over five or six. I guess when you have interesting and cultural resources you can make a day out of them. The little guy seemed to be very interested in the collection and asked questions about colors and landscapes.

Once we got our $12 admission worth we ventured out to the plaza down the street. This is the "tourist trap" that everyone talks about. There are Indian vendors that sit in their lawn chairs and sell creations. This weekend, we were lucky and hit an art fair that included jewelry vendors from all over the country. I've never seen so much turquoise in one spot. There were beautiful pieces, but nothing I couldn't live without. We also ventured to the shops along the outside and walked through Lucchese of Santa Fe. That's pronounced Lou-Casey for all you non-boot folks.

"Are you ladies looking for anything in particular?"

"No, we're just looking around," we answered, and I have to say that the gal working was great and didn't seem pretentious and just let us be.

"Oh, well here we call that drooling," she said with a smile. "Over there are the ladies boots. The wall right there starts at $395 and goes up to about $600 and the wall on the back side starts at $600."

We drooled and left. Quickly. We also hit up Maverick Western Wear. Again, just looking. We checked out the Old Gringo boots, the cow hide rugs and the beautiful leather purses. The cheapest purse in the case was $1,500. I moved along — and fast.

As we ventured toward the next block we took in the sight of the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. I didn't make it to mass, but the church is quite beautiful, and quite the sight in the middle of the simple adobe architecture that surrounds it.

Lunch was interesting. We randomly picked a place and went in. The menu was pretty simple, but the service was terrible. The manager guy tried to be funny, but was not. Let's just say I was excited to finally exit that establishment and the festival of awkwardness that inhabited it.

Next up on the schedule is the famous Ag Media Summit welcome party. This year it's "Mariachi and Margaritas" so it's likely there will be some fun had.

It looks like the weather will be great for the outdoor party and just right for a little tequila and some maracas.

Maybe even simultaneously.
