It's all so, glamorous...

This is not what Fergie had in mind.

I have been told that my job must be so glamorous with the travel I get the opportunity to do. Right. If you find 30-hour trips to sometimes random locations while breathing other people's air while stuffed in an airplane glamorous, then yeah. I guess you could call it whatever you want.

Today's adventure began in the television station, weather hub, ariel spay business, and commercial airport in Dodge City. Three passengers, two TSA, and three staffers sat around watching Bonanza reruns as we waited for the plane. Once it arrived the pilot hopped out and I almost asked for ID, but I doubt he had any because he had to be pushing 13.

I knew the trip to Denver could be rough, so I was proactive and had chewed my Dramamine. I was optimistic. I have to admit it was the smoothest ride to Denver yet, but keep in mind I was drugged.

Next came the near three hour layover in Denver. The people watching at an airport can be as fun as any Wal-Mart depending on where you are. Denver is great for people watching. One guy was talking to his kids, one guy laid around with his gut hanging out like he was in his living room, and one lady appeared slightly buzzed as she got off the plane and into the gate area. Pretty disappointing really.

How do you know it will be a short trip? You check-in to your return flight before boarding the flight to your destination. Yep. Total glamour.

I did take the opportunity to blow $29 and spring for more leg room. It was nice. However, the rocket scientist next to me had little personality which made for a quiet flight. He was something like a rocket scientist, because he was reading papers about fusion and cooling elements. Not that I looked.

When we flew into Minneapolis we landed in what seemed to be a random field in South Dakota. We made our way to the gate, had to stop twice for traffic and finally got to the gate, which may have been in Wisconsin. I couldn't tell because it was dark. Then came the four-mile hike to get out of the airport.

Getting a taxi was easy, but not at all economical. It took $43.75 to get downtown to the hotel across from Target Center.

It's a fancy hotel, and I know it's fancy when there is a television and phone next to the toilet. I'll be in the room for about nine hours, sit in meetings for a couple hours and then head back to the airport to make the trek home.

No telling what that trip will bring.
