Happy New Year, sorta...

January is the longest month of the year. It's cold, miserable and reminds you of all the things you want to do better for the next calendar year, but will ultimately forget by March 1 when the sun comes back out.

I'm not being cynical. I'm a realist.

These are the "resolutions" I made for 2013, and how those have worked out for me so far.

1.) Lose weight. I have a pretty important event in April that I wanted to look great for. Let's just say the only way I'll lose about 50 pounds before April is a tape worm, or several of them.

2.) Cuss less. This one lasted about thirty minutes.

3.) Pray more. I have to say this one has worked out for me. I've prayed more in the last three weeks than I did in six months last year.

4.) Be nicer. See No. 1. When I diet I'm grumpy. I can't do both. You'll either get a skinnier me, or a nicer me, and let's just say I'd rather be nice.

5.) Be more positive and less cynical. See No. 2.

6.) Spend less money. Did you see the awesome new shoes I bought? Again, see No. 2.

7.) Stop lying to myself about making changes. Bingo! I finally was able to keep a resolution - so far.

The bottom line is no matter what your resolution(s) it comes down to one thing. Just don't be a jerk. The world has way too many of those. Resolve to treat other humans like you'd want to be treated and maybe, just maybe, you'll have a great 2013.
