The lone ranger...

The manufacturers war is looking up. If Sunday's running of the 50th Daytona 500 is a glimpse into the immediate future the war looks to be a little more equal.

One Chevrolet made the top 10, one. Hendrick Motorsports driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr. came home with the best finish for the bowtie brigade in a field that was filled with Dodge's.

Yes, Dodge.

This is the same group that struggled in 2007. This is the same group that couldn't find a top-ten finish in 2007 with a Garmin (sold at Radio Shack). Looks as though the camps of Ganassi and Evernham have showed up to play, and nobody would have ever thought six chargers would have finished in the top 20, let alone the top ten. Count them, Ryan Newman (winner), Kurt Busch, Reed Sorenson, Elliott Sadler, Kasey Kahne and Robby Gordon (who only weeks ago bounced over from Ford). That's six. Amazing.

Ford filled in the tenth spot with a good showing by Greg Biffle, but the talk of Speedweeks was the Toyota horsepower. It was reported that Toyota has 30 more horsepower than its counterparts. I discussed this in a previous blog.

Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch brought home third and fourth place finishes for Joe Gibbs Racing, nothing to be shy about, but Stewart was dissapointed. Who wouldn't be, he only took the white flag leading the race only to be beaten in turn four when Kurt Busch gave Ryan Newman a shove to victory.

A surprising race, nontheless. Pretty uneventful but racy towards the end.

Hopefully a slew of something other than a bowtie means that this season will be interesting to say the least.
