Coming to you from the Angus Inn Best Western in Great Bend, Kan.
I must admit when they handed me the file for my first solo trip I was a little nervous. “Great Bend,” I thought to myself. Now, keep in mind I have been to this bustling city before. My good friend Josh got married here and from what I remember it was the last time I was ever extremely inebriated. I’m just glad they don’t have my photo up on the wall or recognized me. That would have been embarrassing. “Yeah, um…” as I talk to the boss, “I can’t stay here because I made an ass of myself the last visit and they don’t want any other, uh, issues from me…” You get the drift. (No mom it wasn’t that bad. Nothing a little resolve can’t clean from the carpet.)
I got here and checked in and the first thing I did was crank the air down. It’s a balmy 42 degrees in the room now. I love seeing my breath. Second thing you do when you get to a room, check the cable. Score, they have the SPEED Channel. My tomorrow morning won’t be a complete bust. The rest of the room is irrelevant, but I am glad they have high speed internet. Without this, I would have had to…read or something.
So I will be plugging soybeans and alternative fuels to the fine folks of Barton County as they rummage around the free goods I brought. To be honest many of them could give a shit less about what I promote as long as they can take something free with them. Mission accomplished.
I also had another first this morning. I made my radio debut. I was the ‘guest’ on the Soybean Update. The SU is a short segment on a few radio stations throughout Kansas. I believe my next interview will be tomorrow on some AM station in god’s country.
She asked me about my internship, what I do and what I want to do in the future. The last question was tough because I really, have no idea. She asked me about my background and if I liked driving the soybean truck. I put on my best phone voice and answered them all to the best of my ability and laced them with enough bullshit to sound intelligent. That’s what PR is, isn’t it, making things out to be better than they really are.
I kid, Dr. Barb, I kid.
I spoke about things like the biodiesel promotions and of course the soybean checkoff. That’s why they interview me to be honest. They want farmers all over the state to have a first hand account of how their checkoff dollars are spent. I hope now they have an idea.
Emily (the interviewer) said I did a good job, so at least I didn’t tank. She also asked if I’d ever thought about doing radio as a career. I had to scratch my head on that one. No, I haven’t to be honest.
Maybe it’s something I’ll look into.

This will be one of my favorite posts! Funny! That's exactly what PR means to me. lol That's why I think PR would be fun. Making people believe something that may or may not be true. Only you know the reality. lol I'm glad you did so well. I'm always proud of you.
Sarah, Sarah, Sarah! hehe I hope you are successful getting away with these stories, 'cause they're great! Kelly has a big annuities exam tomorrow, and is a little uptight, so I read the Thursday and Monday entries to her and had her rolling on the floor. Yeah, I know, she' easily entertained. hehe Keep up the good work, and if you ever need a job...
