Silly season just won't go away.
Paul Menard announced Tuesday he will leave Dale Earnhardt, Inc. for Yates racing in 2009 taking sponsor Menard's with him. (Most probably have never heard of him, and for good reason. He's not that good but daddy's money will buy anyone a ride.) There seems to be a mass exodus going on in rural Mooresville at the "Garage Mahal".
With Menard's departure DEI is left with only one "big name" driver, Martin Truex, Jr. Truex signed a one-year deal that will take him through the 2009 season, don't count on him returning in 2010. Mark Martin shared the coveted eight ride with rookie Aric Almirola. Almirola is still at DEI, but sponsorless. Martin will leave the part-time ride to join the previous driver no. eight at Hendrick Motorsports in 2009. To add insult to injury, the Army is speculated to be leaving DEI to join Stewart-Haas Racing to sponsor Ryan Newman in the no. 39.
If the chaos at DEI isn't enough to have you scratching your head the latest garage skuttlebutt will have it spinning.
ESPN/ABC analyst Rusty Wallace back behind the wheel, at DEI, no joke.
Kenny Wallace, speedtv.com columnist, on-air personality, current driver and younger brother to Rusty, reported that the former champion feels he pulled the plug on his career 'to early' and watching Mark Martin's success has him ready to get back behind the wheel.
Story is, he's seriously thinking about it.
Rusty seems to have forgotten he's never driven the COT and that the sport has changed dramatically in the three years he's been gone. However, kudos to having the confidence to think you can do it.
At least fans can choose whether to listen to his bullshit on Sunday's if he is inside the car and not spewing it on television. If only we could get Brad D. to hop into a car...
What's next? Richard Petty's welcome back tour?

Update:Rusty Wallace has denied the rumor that he will return to cup racing. Maybe Kenny won't be getting a Christmas card this year? There has to be more to the story, but until then sit back and watch DEI unravel.

I've missed my NASCAR news. I didn't realize it, but I did. I think this means I'm growing!... (as a NASCAR fan anyway.)
All thanks go to you, Sfar! ;)
