I am not an overly religious person – on the
outside. I prefer to keep my faith tucked away for only me. I admit I don’t go
to church as often as I should, but I do give thanks for the things I have –
and the opportunities I have been blessed with.
I do believe that we all have a role in life, and
only God knows the plot. He is a gifted screenwriter who tells our story with smart
wit, inevitable sadness, and pure joy. He’s the kind of writer that has you
laughing on minute, and crying the next. If he wrote country music he’d write
for George Strait.
I would like to believe that at the end of our
days we walk the red carpet to the pearly gates with angels rejoicing all
around us (even though paparazzi likely don’t get wings). We’ll be asked who we’re
wearing, and I will likely have no idea. We’ll smile for the flashbulbs because
this is our five minutes of true fame.
We’ll get to the gate where St. Peter has on his
headset and tux, he’ll tell us we look fabulous as he opens the door and leads
us inside. We’ll be greeted with fanfare by family members and friends; we’ll
get our Junior Mints (or Milk Duds), our sodas, and our 3-D glasses (because in Heaven things are free!) and settle in to watch the
premiere of our life.
It is only then we’ll realize where the plot was
going and how it all worked out – God will make sure we all have a happy
ending, and we’ll start our life over with God.
I may not understand his humor, his casting, his
timing, or certainly the plot – but I have to have some faith and remember that
I don’t get to write this story.
God does.
I recently came across a note in my bible that serves as a reminder when I feel:
- Worried – Matthew 6:19-34
- Lonely – Hebrews 13:5-6
- Discouraged – Psalm 23
- Defeated – Romans 8:39 / Psalm 34:22
- Bitter – I Corintheans 13
- Anxious – Philippians 4:6
- Afraid – II Timothy 1:7
- Weary – Galatians 6:12

Beautiful. I love it. I like that we'll watch a recap of life and see that He knew the reason for everything.
