Case in point - Grandpa's John Deere 6620 is now going to cut wheat in a different county. We have a John Deere 9600 that can cut wheat faster, and cleaner than the old machine — so it was time to say sayonara.
Of course it was a little sad to see it go. It was sad to see the other combine we had go. We retired Dad's machine quite a few years ago. I have a lot of great memories in wheat fields where this old machine was cutting wheat until the sun didn't shine. I lost my first tooth, rode several rounds to beat the heat, and took my first load of grain from this combine to town.
We got it all ready to go and then sent it on down the road.
Machines don't last forever, but the memories do.
