Painting party...

Painting party!
My masterpiece.
I went to a painting party. Apparently they are a popular in urban areas, so it was nice to hear that Southwest Kansas had this opportunity. Out here we don't necessarily get the same fun opportunities that our urban friends do.

Slightly hesitant, I took my snack and went to a complete strangers house. Meeting me there were a few women I worked with, so I wasn't going in completely blind. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the snacks were good - and that makes any gathering a plus.

I met a few new people, and one gal (a teacher) said I looked familiar. Over the next five minutes we tried to figure out why, and then finally came to the conclusion that she taught at Silver Lake before moving back to Western Kansas to be near family. It truly is a very, very small world.

Our instructor for the evening of painting was The Roving Brush and she was not only patient, but fun. She has a blog with more information about her painting parties, too. The painting for the evening was a sunflower. She encouraged us to do our own thing, and most of us did. Or, as one person said, "nobody is following directions!" That got a good laugh. We learned basic techniques, and a little about general painting. I'd never had an art class, so it was a new experience all together. However, I like classes and learning new things.

I found out that this painting thing was not only fun, but somewhat relaxing. It was just a few hours where I could unplug, and that isn't a bad thing.

It cost me $25. That's a small price to pay for a relaxing night of fun. I'd do it again.

Our group photo. Many different takes on sunflowers. (photo from The Roving Brush)
