I wanted to take the opportunity to share something near and dear to the Farlee and Hallgren families. The "Republic United Methodist Church Revelations" will be featuring a new series on the church's new stained glass windows. The feature will highlight one of the new windows, along with information about the family the window is in memory of. The write-up just scratches the surface of their community involvement in Republic, the church, and beyond. The June 2014 issue featured our family's window.
The following is the small write-up that appeared in the newsletter. I made a few minor changes for clarity.
The New Stained Glass Window Series
The Baptism of Jesus
This window is dedicated to Lloyd and Ruth Hallgren, Glenn and Margaret Farlee, and Merlyn Farlee.
Lloyd and Ruth were both born on their respective family farms near Courtland, Kansas. Lloyd in 1912 and Ruth in 1911. On December 20, 1933, they were united in marriage in Republic, Kansas. For nine years they lives in Saginaw, Michigan and then in September 1944 they moved back to Kansas and in 1951, they moved to the family farm and remained there until Lloyd's death in 1982. They were members of the Republic United Methodist Church. Lloyd served as Republic Mayor, and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He also owned and operated Hallgren Construction Company. Ruth was a faithful homemaker until she passed away in 1999.
Glenn and Margaret Farlee (both natives of the Republic and Scandia, Kansas area) were married August 12, 1933, in Macon, Missouri. They moved back to the homestead near Republic, Kansas in the fall of 1937 and remained there until their death. (Glenn in 1988 and Margaret in 2001). Both were faithful members of the Republic Methodist Church, and Glenn a member of the Republic Masonic Lodge #123. Margaret was a member of the Rahe Hobson Ladies Library Club in Republic.
She and Glenn were the proud parents of Merlyn, who was born October 9, 1933 and passed away September 14, 2010. He was a member of the Republic Masonic Lodge for 55 years, and also a member of the Belleville Masonic Lodge #129. Merlyn also served as Mayor of Republic. He was a member of the Elks, Moose, and Eagles Lodges. He was a very active member of the United Methodist Church where he served in several capacities.
The Family of these members greatly miss them.
We adore the new windows and how they adorn our sanctuary. Our heart felt thanks and appreciation goes out to the family and friends of those who morn the loss and remember the gifts these people brought into their lives.
