I grew up in agriculture, and even though I cussed it at the time (because it was hard work) I'm glad I did. If I could I'd probably go back and appreciate it a little bit more because hindsight is always 20/20. It made me who I am today.
I feel sorry for kids that never had immense responsibility on their shoulders, because that's how you learn it. You learn how to care for other living things, you learn tough life lessons, you learn how to thrive in a "team" environment because family farms are teams, and you grow thick skin. Growing up on a farm is the epitome of tough love and it's not for the weak.
I'm lucky I work with some pretty strong people who have roots as deep as I do in agriculture. That's what makes High Plains Journal so good at what we do.
Agriculture isn't just a paycheck for us, it's a way of life. Our readers recognize this, and it's why we are one of the most respected publications in the industry.
On the High Plains Journal Facebook page we're highlighting our roots in ag with a series of images that represent where our employees come from. It's been a fun series to work on, and one we're excited to share with our readers because like my co-workers, I'm proud of where I come from.
