This weekend at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, Donny Schatz (pronounced shots- I know, I know I have to remember SC-HAT-Z to remember how to spell it) Anyways, Schatz was crowned king at the Kings Royal, presented by Crown Royal this past weekend (bet ya can't say that five times in a row without messing it up). The Kings Royal is an annual race that ranks up there with the Knoxville Nationals, to put it lightly it's a pretty big race as far as the big sprints go. (sprints referring to cars, not the short run of track athletes).
Eldora, for those non-motorheads, is one of the premier dirt tracks in the country and owned by Tony Stewart. Eldora is rich with history and I for one would love to be able to see it one day. It's fast, it's slick, it's one hell of a dirt track.
On to the shameless plug. Donny Schatz (last years points champion), along with coherts Stever Kinser (20 time champion), Joey Seldana (driving for Kasey Kahne), Paul McMahan (driving for Tony Stewart), Danny 'the dude' Lasoski (who is outright crazy), and the rest of the World of Outlaws will be rumbling into Topeka, Friday night September 14. They will be running the 3/8 dirt oval at Heartland Park Topeka and tickets are on sale now (1-800-43-races).
It's balls to the wall excitement with some of dirt racing's best personalities. It'll be loud, it'll be high energy and it will be well worth the money. I'm telling you, it's a show you won't want to miss!
For the whole story on the Kings Royal presented by Crown Royal...if your curious-

Hmm..... I could fly into KC and be there in time. It definitely sounds like it would be a blast!
hey I appreciate the shameless plug. Because I work at the Super 8 that's so close to the track people always expect me to know what is going on out there months in advance. Which is fine, we have track schedules and stuff, but a lot of people call to make reservations and tell me they want a room the weekend of 'the race.' They don't know when 'the race' is, but I'm supposed to know what they're talking about.
Now I will!
