This week in sports...

China…what a bunch of hardasses….
China’s national basketball team took a shot at You Ming,Houston Rockets star, after he reported to his native national team late. The shots stated that Ming was spending too much time planning his wedding and taking too much time doing appearances and work for the Special Olympics and 2008 summer games in Bejing. ESPN quoted the Chinese saying,

"No matter how lofty public welfare activities are, they can't be allowed to take first place in a player's life,” coming from a Chinese federation owned newspaper. "No matter how sweet personal life is, it can't be compared to the exultation of capturing glory for one's nation,'' the article said.

In addition to the Ming drama. They also refuse to let Li Yuanwei, sign with the Bucks because the ‘audience’ wouldn’t 'grow' him as a player. What they are really saying is that Milwaulkee doesn’t have enough Chinese people that we can target and we won’t play for strictly American’s. Get over yourself Li, you aren't that good. You should be happy any team in the NBA wants you.

Wow…back off China. You might have awesome cuisine but your people skills suck.

Beckham arrives…
It is still uncertain whether Becks will make his July 21st debut due to a sore ankle. His wife, Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham already hit the ground with stride as her reality show debuted. (not a series, but just one show.) Didn’t know she had one…wow, remind me to Tivo that one, not.

Let’s face it. American’s could care less about soccer. LA only signed Beckham to bring his moderately talented pop star wife over here to sell more papers. He’s not going to save MLS. If Mia Hamm and the rest of the USA team couldn’t save MLS…Beckham doesn’t have a chance.

Maybe, just maybe the female audience will increase viewership. This chick won’t be watching.

(nothing against soccer, it's just not a sport we here in the states dig.)

Roid rage, on the green...
Gary Player, golfer, alledged that he knows of one player who has used steroids for a performance advantage. Phil Mickleson, golfer, states he thinks golf is a clean sport.

I don't know, but I'm going to have to go with Phil until I'm given proof otherwise. I mean are you kidding me? IT'S NOT EVEN A DAMN CONTACT SPORT!

oof.

Vick indicted on dog fight charges…
I have only three words for what he’s done to poor defenseless dogs. Rot in jail, okay maybe four words. Rot in jail…bastard.

WTF?! China is really going nuts over this sports crap. You'd expect this kind of attitude from some of the players here in the U.S., but for China to outright shoot down this guy for doing all this charity work and helping with the special olympics is just crazy. Like getting another million is really going to make your life that much better. And it certainly wont help special children or anyone in the world for that matter.

I'm not too into the whole soccer craze, but I don't think it will be a big boom all of a sudden. And roids in golf? Again, WTF?!

Now Vick should totally rot in jail. First, I hope he's convicted, then I hope a couple of people get a hold of his ass while he has his "activity time" in the yard. What he's done (allegedly, lol) is just wrong!

Good post! Got me worked up!

C'mon - I do have to say Soccer is the ONLY sport I'll watch with any regularity. Nothing greater - we just haven't figured it out yet. I hope it booms [so I can watch a game I want without having to pay to see it online (REDICULOUS in a place where I can catch bullriding, fishing, or cheerleading on one of the sports channels at any given time)]- but I'm not placing any bets on that one.

Golf was never a clean "sport"... (I'm not sure it was ever a sport). Go to Augusta or Hilton Head in April. Cocaine, "roids"... No secret there.

I hope "they" make an example out of Vick. I'm already seeing how the CNN coverage of this is opening people up to discuss issues of animal cruelty. Maybe we can actually start tackling dog fighting and then puppy mills here in the Midwest.
