A week full of bitching and beating a dead horse.
Matt Kenseth wins the Daytona 380 after rain shortens the race. He wins his 17th victory, in the No. 17 car on the 20th anniversary of Darrell Waltrip's Daytona victory in the No. 17.
Fans will be upset because they didn't try to get the race in; that NASCAR didn't try hard enough to give the fans 500 miles. They'll also say Kenseth didn't earn his win. In my opinion he did earn it because he made it through the big one and anyone who starts the Great American Race race is truly deserving.
The weather was coming and he put himself in a position to win, simple as that. But, it wouldn't have mattered if Kenseth would have raced 800 miles in reverse. He is the Dangerfield of NASCAR - he gets no respect.
For the No. 17 the win is a win, but that will be overshadowed.
It will be buried by the 27th place finisher. The media should be thanking Dale Earnhardt, Jr. for their upcoming week's worth of material. Nothing fires up NASCAR nation like a good old fashioned controversy involving the No. 88.
After his less than stellar performance on the track they'll have a lot to discuss. JR Nation will holler and the haters will come out of the woodwork. Sirius Satellite Radio channel 128 should be really good tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that, and the day after...you get my drift.
I for one plead the fifth. I'm too biased to decide which side to take.(Hint:I may have scratched my head, but I would have did what he did and I am a firm believer it was not intentional - as unpopular as that is.)
Next up - The Boring 500 from Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. It may be the first time ever this loyal Sirius listener will be happy the circus pulls into Fontana.
It is what it is.
