Road Tripping...

The Winnebago is packed the beer is on ice and it’s time to embark on a trip of a lifetime, it’s time for a trip to the infield of your favorite race track.

Race fans are known for two things: driver loyalty and infield entertainment. A 37-foot RV becomes some race fans weekend home away from home. It may sound atrocious, but it just makes sense, economical cents.

Every party wagon needs the essentials. It needs a host, someone who is friendly and welcoming. They’ll be the first one people meet so they need to be memorable individuals. The next most important aspect of the infield campsite is the grill. Gas is the best and simplest as every meal is done in the open. Keep up the liquor cabinet, keeping a variety for guests will keep them coming back and don’t forget the ice cold beer in a large cooler or ice filled tank.

There needs to be welcoming interior in the coach that gives the camp a homey feeling, something that makes guests feel at home. The platform of the RV is also an important aspect of the camp. It allows for ease in race watching and gives everyone a clear view of their surroundings. Safety is important and people should be under their own power and given the rundown of the rules when they are enjoying the scenery from atop the motorized home.

Beads are not a necessity for every fan, just those who chose to roam the campsites on motorized coolers seeking the woman (or man) of their dreams. If beads aren’t in the cards, select some type of mascot or defining piece of memorabilia that other fans can enjoy and relate to. A mascot can say a lot regarding a campsites personality. Approachability is the goal.

Last but not least you need music. The music selection of a campsite can make or break a reputation. Safe picks are southern rock bands and you can never, ever park your RV without ‘Free Bird’ and ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ in the library and they must be played once an hour, on the hour. Steer clear of jazz and classical music because, although cultural and soothing, doesn’t fit the atmosphere.

These tips should serve as a guide to the next successful trip to an infield, or a general road trip. No matter what, remember to have a memorable, safe and fun time.

Holy @#%$! I love it! I laughed my ass off. And I can totally relate. I was doing a mental inventory of all my party supplies to make sure I had something for everyone. I just lack a mascot. Sure, I'd have beads too, but, like you say, a good party would have all of those items. I'm going to start searching for a mascot.

It's going to be great! Now I really want to go to a race.

Great writing! I'm so excited now!
